How to prevent MediaWiki from redirecting the main domain to the "Main Page"? -

i see lot of questions how alter title of mediawiki main page or how redirect page, can't seem find on how 1) prevent mediawiki redirecting main domain "main page", , 2) display stand-alone page under main domain.

in other words, how wikipedia when go www.wikipedia.org

instead of redirecting "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/main_page", displays stand-alone custom page on main domain (www.wikipedia.org).

how can mediawiki?

this isn't mediawiki issue/function :) wikipedia.org top level domain own index page. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ "real" article path (with /w/ scriptpath). redirected main page, if open en.wikipedia.org/wiki :)

so, e.g., if wiki installation in domain.tld/wiki/ need place "own" webpage/opener domain.tld/.

if user opens domain.tld see custom page, if open domain.tld/wiki redirected domain.tld/wiki/main_page.
